Introduction

Munich Airport stopped all flights on Sunday evening. There was a fire alarm and smoke in the control tower.

Main Body

The alarm started at 20:50. People left the tower quickly. Planes could not take off or land. Workers used a second backup tower to help.

Some planes flew to Linz Airport in Austria instead of Munich. Twenty fire trucks came to the airport. The police did not see any fire.

🕒 Talking about the Past

To reach A2, you must move from the present to the past. Look at how this story changes words to show things already happened:

  • Stop \rightarrow Stopped
  • Start \rightarrow Started
  • Use \rightarrow Used

The Magic Rule: For most simple actions, just add -ed to the end. This tells the listener the event is over.


🛑 The "Not" Rule

When we want to say something did not happen in the past, we use did not + the original word.

"The police did not see any fire."

Notice we don't say did not saw. Once you use did, the main action goes back to its normal, present form.
