🛠️ The "Action Word" Pattern

In this story, we see many words that tell us what happened in the past. To reach A2, you need to know how to change a basic action into a 'finished' action.

The Simple Pattern: Add -ED Look at these words from the text:

  • Stop → Stopped*
  • Want → Wanted*
  • Use → Used*

Note: When a word ends in 'e', just add 'd'. When it's short like 'stop', double the last letter.

⚠️ The Rebels (Words that change completely) Some words don't follow the -ed rule. You just have to memorize them:

TakeTook (Example: Israel took 428 people)

GoWent (Example: The people went to the port)

SaySaid (Example: The people say...) \rightarrow Wait! In the text, "say" is present, but "said" would be past.

Quick Tip for A2: If you see -ed at the end of a word, the action is already over.

Crowded = Full of people (finished state) Stopped = Not moving anymore (finished action)
