💡 The 'Who' and the 'What'

In this story, we see a pattern for talking about groups of people and what they want. This is a key part of A2 English.

The Pattern: [Group/Person] + wants/want + [Something]

Examples from the text:

  • The Coalition party \rightarrow wants \rightarrow a new rule.
  • One Nation \rightarrow want \rightarrow non-citizens to sell houses.

Easy Rule:

  • Use wants for one person or one group (He wants / The party wants).
  • Use want for many people (They want / The leaders want).

🛠️ Word Swapping

Look at how the author describes people. Instead of saying "people from other countries" every time, they use different words:

  1. Non-citizens (People who are not citizens)
  2. Foreign workers (People from other countries who have jobs)
  3. Permanent Residents (People allowed to live there forever)

A2 Tip: Use these words to make your English sound more natural!
