Vocabulary Learning

⚡️ THE 'HAVE' PATTERN

In this story, we see "have" used in two different ways. This is a key jump for A2 students.

1. Owning something (Possession)

  • The Patriots have a problem.
  • (They possess a problem right now.)

2. Experiencing something (Medical/Life)

  • Chris Rodriguez Jr. has a foot surgery.
  • (He is not 'owning' the surgery; he is undergoing it.)

💡 QUICK GUIDE: HE/SHE/IT

Notice how the word changes when we talk about one person or one team:

  • Many teams \rightarrow start (Plural)
  • One player \rightarrow is (Singular)
  • The Patriots \rightarrow have (Group/Plural)
  • He \rightarrow wants (Singular \rightarrow add 's')

Pattern: I/You/We/They \rightarrow want He/She/It \rightarrow wants
