⏳ The 'Did Not' Pattern

In this story, we see a pattern used to say someone failed to do something. This is very common in A2 English to describe mistakes or problems.

The Rule: Did not + Action word (Present form)

Examples from the text:

  • Did not protect → (They failed to keep him safe)
  • Did not start → (They didn't begin the case)
  • Did not keep → (They didn't maintain safety)

Why this matters: Beginners often try to change the action word to the past (e.g., did not protected ❌).

Remember: Did not already tells us it is the past. The action word stays simple.

Quick Comparison:

  • He knows (Now) → He did not know (Past)
  • They protect (Now) → They did not protect (Past)
