Planes Stop at San Francisco Airport

Introduction

On Sunday, June 7, the FAA stopped all flights at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) for a short time.

Main Body

The FAA did not say why the flights stopped. The stop ended quickly. However, the airport has new safety rules now.

Now, fewer planes can land every hour. Before, 54 planes could land. Now, only 36 planes can land. This is because the runways are too close together. It is dangerous for two planes to land at the same time.

Also, workers are fixing the runways. This work takes six months. This project makes the airport slower. The FAA says these rules are only for this airport.

Conclusion

Planes are flying again. But the airport must follow the new safety rules.

Vocabulary Learning

🕒 Then vs. Now

Look at how the airport changed. We use Before and Now to show a difference in time.

  • Before \rightarrow 54 planes (The old way)
  • Now \rightarrow 36 planes (The new way)

How to use this: When you want to talk about a change in your life, use this pattern:

  • "Before, I lived in a small town. Now, I live in a big city."
  • "Before, I spoke no English. Now, I am learning A2."

🛠️ The "Too" Rule

In the text, it says: "runways are too close together."

Use too + adjective when something is a problem. It means "more than we want."

  • Too close \rightarrow Dangerous!
  • Too hot \rightarrow I can't drink the coffee.
  • Too slow \rightarrow I am late for work.
