🌪️ The 'Past' Pattern
Look at these words from the story: hit, broke, died, fell, stopped.
In English, when we talk about things that happened yesterday or last week, we change the action word.
Simple Change → Special Change
- stop stopped (just add -ed)
- break broke (the word changes)
- die died (just add -d)
- fall fell (the word changes)
Why this matters for A2: If you want to tell someone about your day or a news story, you cannot use 'present' words.
Wrong: "A tree fall and kill a man." Right: "A tree fell and killed a man."
📍 Where & When
Notice how the writer puts the place and time at the end of the sentence:
- ...on June 11 and 12.
- ...in Chicago.
- ...in Iowa.
Pattern: [Action] [Place/Time] Example: The game did not happen in Chicago.
