Main Body

This law lets the US government collect information from people in other countries. Some people say it stops terrorists. Other people say it is bad because it takes information from US citizens.

這項法案允許美國政府收集其他國家人士的資訊。有些人認為這能阻止恐怖分子。但也有人認為這很糟糕,因為它會獲取美國公民的資訊。

The House and Senate did not agree on the law. They also disagreed about a new leader for the intelligence group. President Trump chose a new person, but it was too late.

眾議院與參議院未能就該法案達成共識。他們對於情報部門的新領導人選也存在分歧。川普總統選了一位新的人選,但時機已太遲。

Now, the law is gone. Some courts say the government can still collect data. But phone and internet companies might stop helping because they are afraid of legal problems.

The Power of "STOP"

In this text, we see how one word can change a whole sentence. Look at these two ways to use stop:

  1. Stop + Person/Thing"It stops terrorists." (This means: to prevent someone from doing something bad.)

  2. Stop + Action (ing)"Companies might stop helping." (This means: to finish an activity.)

Quick Word Switch

Notice how the text talks about people who don't agree:

  • Did not agree \rightarrow This is the basic way to say "No."
  • Disagreed \rightarrow This is a faster, more natural way to say the same thing.

Pattern: Did not agree = Disagreed
