⚽ Speaking about the Past

When we talk about things that happened yesterday or in a finished game, we change the action word.

The Change:

  • Play \rightarrow Played
  • Beat \rightarrow Beat (stays the same!)
  • End \rightarrow Ended
  • Lose \rightarrow Lost

Quick Rule: For most words, just add -ed at the end. Example: "The USA played very well."

Special Cases: Some words are 'rebels' and change completely. Example: "They lost 7-1" (not losed).

The 'No' Rule (Negative): To say something didn't happen, use did not + the original word.

  • Wrong: did not let \rightarrow (Wait, 'let' is a rebel that doesn't change!)
  • Pattern: did not + base word
  • Example: "The USA did not let a referee enter."

A2 Tip: Use these words to tell a simple story about your weekend!
