New US Immigration Rules

Introduction

The US government has new rules for people from other countries. These rules make it hard to live in the US forever.

Main Body

Now, many people must go back to their own countries to ask for a green card. The government also uses more police and computers to find migrants. They want more short-term workers for farms, but these workers have fewer rights.

This happened in the past too. From 1942 to 1964, the US took many workers from Mexico. The government used their work, but they did not give them legal safety. Today, the government does the same thing.

Also, the DACA program is very slow. People wait many months to renew their papers. Some people cannot work now. The government says this is for safety, but other people say it is to make life hard for migrants.

Conclusion

The US government wants workers for a short time, but it does not want them to stay forever.

Vocabulary Learning

🕰️ THEN vs. NOW

Look at how the text talks about time. We can use simple words to show the difference between the past and today.

The Past (1942 - 1964)

  • The US took workers. (Finished action)
  • They did not give safety. (Finished action)

The Present (Today)

  • The government does the same thing. (Current habit)
  • People wait many months. (Current situation)

Quick Rule: When you see a year (like 1942) \rightarrow use the Past form (Took/Did). When you see 'Today' or 'Now' \rightarrow use the Present form (Does/Wait).
