Introduction

Many bad things happened in India recently. Police in different states are working to stop these crimes.

Main Body

In Chhattisgarh, two families fought over sand business. One man died and four people were hurt. In Chandigarh, bad people killed a shop worker. Police caught two suspects in Jammu and Kashmir.

In this news report, we see how to describe things that already happened. This is the most important step for A2 English.

1. The Simple Past (What happened?) Look at these changes from the text:

  • Fight \rightarrow Fought
  • Die \rightarrow Died
  • Kill \rightarrow Killed
  • Catch \rightarrow Caught
  • Try \rightarrow Tried

2. Describing People (Who did it?) We use simple labels to describe roles in a story:

  • The suspects: People the police think are guilty.
  • The leader: The person in charge.
  • The gang: A group of bad people.

3. Location Markers To say where something is, use 'In' + Place Name:

  • In Delhi
  • In West Bengal
  • In Haryana
