🧩 Building Action Sentences
Look at how the text uses Can. In English, we use can to show that someone has the power or permission to do something. It is very simple: just put it before the action word.
Patterns from the text:
- The EU can send people home. (The EU has the power to do this)
- Police can keep people in jail. (Police are allowed to do this)
- Police can use electronic tags. (This is a possible action)
⚠️ The 'Not' Rule When we want to say something is impossible or not allowed, we use cannot (or can't).
- Children cannot stay in these centers. (It is not allowed)
Quick Guide for A2 Learners:
Person/Group + can + Action Word = Power/Ability
Person/Group + cannot + Action Word = No Power/No Permission
