Introduction

The second day of Royal Ascot had many horse races. Some members of the royal family came to the event.

皇家Ascot賽馬會的第二天舉行了許多場賽馬比賽。部分王室成員也出席了此次活動。

Main Body

Princess Beatrice and her husband came to the races. They did not want people to see them. They stayed away from the crowds.

碧翠絲公主與她的丈夫來觀賽了。他們不想被他人發現,因此避開了人群。

The biggest race was the Prince of Wales’s Stakes. Two famous horses, Daryz and Ombudsman, raced against each other. Other horses raced in different events too.

最重大的賽事是威爾斯親王錦標賽。兩匹著名的賽馬 Daryz 與 Ombudsman 展開了較量。其他賽馬也在不同的賽事中 competed。

The weather was cloudy and it rained a little. The ground was good for the horses. Two horses did not race because of a sale and a sickness.

天氣陰沉且下了一場小雨。地面狀況對賽馬而言十分理想。有兩匹馬因被出售及生病而未能參賽。

Conclusion

The day was a success. Many people came to watch the sports and see their friends.

🚩 The 'Past' Action Pattern

In this text, we see words that tell us things already happened. To reach A2, you must recognize these 'Past' words.

1. The Regular Pattern (add -ed) Many words just need -ed at the end to move to the past:

  • Stay \rightarrow Stayed*
  • Race \rightarrow Raced*

2. The Rule-Breakers (Change completely) Some words are 'special' and change their shape. You must memorize these:

  • Come \rightarrow Came*
  • Do \rightarrow Did*
  • Is/Am \rightarrow Was*

💡 Quick Guide: Saying 'No' in the Past

To say something did NOT happen, use this simple formula:

Did not + Base Word (No -ed)

Example from text:

  • "They did not want..."
  • (We don't say: They did not wanted ×\times)

Another example:

  • "Two horses did not race..."
  • (We don't say: Two horses did not raced ×\times)
