Vocabulary Learning

🏠 People vs. Businesses

In the text, we see two ways to use a building. This is a great way to learn how to describe where things happen.

1. Living Space (Homes)

  • Home → A place where you sleep and eat.
  • Apartments → Many homes in one big building.

2. Working Space (Businesses)

  • Shop → A place to buy things.
  • Office → A place to work on a computer.
  • Nursing home → A place for medical care.
  • Guest house → A place for visitors to stay.

⚙️ The 'Action' Pattern

Look at how the story describes the problem. The author uses simple verbs to show a change in status:

  • Follow (The law) \rightarrow Do what the rule says.
  • Stop (Illegal buildings) \rightarrow Make something end.
  • Fix (The problem) \rightarrow Make something right/better.
  • Change (The building) \rightarrow Make it different.

Quick Tip for A2: When you want to say someone did something wrong, use: [Person] did not follow the [Rule].
