Science Group Saves Ocean Tools
科學基金會挽救海洋觀測設備
Introduction
The National Science Foundation (NSF) will not destroy the Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI). This is a big network of tools in the sea. It cost 368 million dollars.
美國國家科學基金會(NSF)將不會摧毀海洋觀測倡議(OOI)。這是一個龐大的海洋設備網絡,造價高達 3.68 億美元。
Main Body
The OOI has 900 tools in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. These tools study fish, the earth, and the weather. Scientists were sad because they wanted to keep the data.

Some leaders in the government helped. Senators Jeff Merkley and Lisa Murkowski wrote a new law. This law stopped the NSF from taking the tools out of the water.
政府部分領導人提供了協助。參議員 Jeff Merkley 與 Lisa Murkowski 制定了一項新法律,阻止了 NSF 將設備從海中移除。
Now, the NSF will ask experts for help. They want to know how to keep the tools working. Some tools are already gone, but the NSF wants to put them back.
現在,NSF 將尋求專家的幫助。他們想知道如何維持設備的運作。雖然部分設備已經缺失,但 NSF 希望將其重新部署。
Conclusion
The OOI will stay in the ocean. Experts will now help the NSF plan for the future.

🌍 Location Words
In this story, we see words that tell us where something is. For a beginner, these are the 'anchor' words of a sentence.
The Pattern:
[Thing] + [Preposition] + [Place]
Examples from the text:
- Tools → in → the sea
- Tools → in → the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans
- Tools → out of → the water
💡 Simple Tip: "In" vs "Out of"
Imagine a box.
- If the tool is inside the box (the ocean), we use in.
- If we move the tool away from the box, we use out of.
Quick Look:
- In the water (Inside) Out of the water (Outside)
