Introduction

The state of California has three new ideas for laws. People will vote on these ideas in November 2026.

Main Body

The first idea is a tax for very rich people. People with more than 1.1 billion dollars must pay 5%. This money will help hospitals, schools, and food for poor people. Some leaders like this idea. Other leaders do not like it because rich people might leave the state.

The second idea is about taxi apps like Uber. Some people want these companies to be more responsible for driver mistakes. They want better background checks for drivers. Uber does not want this. Uber wants to pay less money when there are car accidents.

The third idea is about building houses and roads. It wants to make the rules faster. Now, environmental checks take a long time. This new rule will set a time limit to finish these checks quickly.

Conclusion

Many people are spending money to change the voters' minds. They have until June 25 to change these ideas.

💡 The 'Something' Pattern

In the text, we see many words that describe groups of things or categories. For an A2 learner, the most important thing is to recognize how we group people and objects.

1. People Groups

  • Rich people → People with a lot of money.
  • Poor people → People with very little money.
  • Voters → People who choose a leader.
  • Drivers → People who drive cars.

2. Object/Place Groups

  • Hospitals → Places for sick people.
  • Schools → Places for students.
  • Roads → Paths for cars.

🛠️ Simple Sentence Builder

Look at how the text connects a group to an action:

Rich people (Who) \rightarrow must pay (Action) \rightarrow 5% (How much).

If you want to speak A2 English, start your sentences with the group first. It makes your English clear and easy to understand.
