Introduction

The government is looking at Major League Baseball (MLB). Some people say the league is unfair to players who follow a religion.

Main Body

Some players wrote Bible words on their hats during a special game. One player did not wear the special hat. MLB told these players they broke the rules. The league says the rules are for everyone.

Now, government leaders are angry. They want to know if MLB broke the law. Leaders from Florida and Missouri are asking questions. They want to protect the religious rights of the players.

Some people support the special game. Other people say the league hates Christians. Other sports teams also have this problem with special clothes.

Conclusion

The government is still checking if MLB's rules are illegal.

💡 The 'Someone Does Something' Pattern

In this story, we see a lot of actions. For an A2 learner, the most important thing is how we describe who did what.

Look at these pairs:

  • Government \rightarrow is looking
  • Players \rightarrow wrote
  • MLB \rightarrow told
  • Leaders \rightarrow are asking

The Secret Rule: When we talk about the present (now), we often use is or are + a word ending in -ing. Example: Government is looking (It is happening right now).

When we talk about the past (finished), we often add -ed or change the word. Example: MLB told (It already happened).

Quick Word Swap:

  • Broke the law \rightarrow Did something illegal.
  • Protect \rightarrow Keep safe.
