The administration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya is currently being investigated following claims that large amounts of devotee donations were stolen and that land was bought at unfair prices.

The controversy began when former MLA Pawan Pandey claimed that between ₹7 crore and ₹7.5 crore had been misused. These claims were supported by opposition parties, such as the Aam Aadmi Party and Shiv Sena (UBT), who described the situation as a systematic theft of offerings. Consequently, the Uttar Pradesh government created a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) on June 13, consisting of a Divisional Commissioner, an Inspector General of Police, and a Special Secretary of Finance.

At the same time, legal challenges have been raised in court. Advocate Mohit Ashok filed a petition asking for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry and a professional audit, arguing that the SIT does not have the legal authority to handle the case. Furthermore, other lawyers have asked the Supreme Court to register a formal police report (FIR). They emphasized that administrative officers do not have the specialized skills needed for complex financial investigations.

Early findings from the SIT show serious financial problems. Reports suggest that about 71 acres of land were purchased at prices 500% to 800% higher than the actual market value. Additionally, the SIT found mistakes in the records of gemstones and precious metals. The team focused on the period of the Prayagraj Mahakumbh Mela in early 2025, which was a peak time for donations. So far, the SIT has identified 150 suspects and recovered ₹2 crore after five staff members admitted to the fraud.
