Türkiye is preparing to host the 31st Conference of the Parties (COP31) in Antalya. The main goal of this summit is to move from theoretical promises to taking real, concrete actions to fight climate change.

The ideas for COP31 were influenced by the Bonn Climate Change Conference, where experts discussed the need to change how the financial sector handles climate funding. Professor Alp Erinc Yeldan emphasized that current methods, such as carbon pricing, may not be enough. He noted that global greenhouse gas emissions rose from 40 billion tons in 2000 to about 55 billion tons by 2024. Furthermore, some experts question the success of the EU's emissions system, as aviation emissions increased by 25% while industrial emissions dropped by only 5%.

To support these goals, the government launched the 'Climate Implementation Bridge' to help developing countries grow economically while protecting the environment. They have also created the COP31 Business Forum to involve the private sector.

Minister Kurum and UK Energy Secretary Ed Miliband discussed the transition to clean energy and electrification. A key point for Türkiye is the 'just transition.' The government asserts that since industrialized nations caused 92% of global emissions since 1850, it is unfair to demand the same cuts from developing economies. Consequently, they emphasize that wealthy nations must provide the financial support they promised, such as the $300 billion annual goal by 2035.
