The United States Department of Homeland Security has changed the travel rules for the Iranian national soccer team before their final group match against Egypt.

The new rules allow the Iranian team to enter the U.S. two days before their June 26 game in Seattle, Washington. This is a 24-hour increase from the previous rule, which only allowed entry one day before matches. However, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated that the team must leave for their camp in Tijuana, Mexico, immediately after the match ends. These restrictions happened because the team had to move its training center from Arizona to Mexico in late May, after eleven staff members were denied visas.

On the other hand, the U.S. administration, through the White House FIFA Task Force, argued that these measures are necessary for security. The DHS emphasized its goal to keep stadiums safe, while President Donald Trump suggested the rules were meant to protect the athletes themselves.

Meanwhile, Iran has earned two draws against New Zealand and Belgium, meaning they still have a chance to reach the knockout stages.
