The Rugby Football Union (RFU) has reached a financial agreement with the England women's national rugby team, which provides higher salaries and bonuses based on performance.

The new four-year agreement includes a 25% increase in pay. Under this system, the most experienced players could earn up to £100,000 a year, provided they successfully defend the Women's Rugby World Cup title in Australia in 2029. The pay is divided into three different levels, with contracts lasting between one and three years. At least 32 players will have central contracts, while newer players will have temporary agreements.

In recent years, the Red Roses have been incredibly successful, winning eight Six Nations titles in a row and winning 38 matches consecutively. However, when comparing their pay to women's football and cricket, there is still a significant gap in earnings.

From an organizational level, the RFU has invested £24 million into Premiership Women's Rugby over the last ten years. To ensure the sport continues to grow, the governing body has promised to review the contracts every two years. Consequently, if the commercial success of the women's game is higher than expected, salaries may be increased further. Furthermore, this is the first time Team England Rugby has handled the negotiations, rather than the Rugby Players Association.
