A movie project about the life of the artist Madonna has been cancelled after a financial disagreement with Universal Pictures.

The movie was stopped because Madonna and Universal Pictures could not agree on the budget. Madonna emphasized that her life story required a large amount of money, which the studio felt was too expensive. To solve this problem, there was a proposal to move production to Serbia; however, the artist asserted that the studio did not believe she was truly committed to filming there.

The move to a Netflix limited series was first delayed because Universal Pictures owned the script. Madonna described the cost of buying back these rights as far too high.

Currently, Madonna is working with Shawn Levy on a new bioseries for Netflix, although Julia Garner is no longer involved. Furthermore, the artist has made fun of the failed movie by recreating some of her music videos for a television show.
