Introduction

Police are currently carrying out two separate investigations into medical misconduct: one involving a disputed embryo implantation in Delhi and another concerning an illegal network for female foeticide in Maharashtra.

The arrest of two middlemen, Amit Bajirao Tengale and Sachin Vishwanath Kadam, has revealed how the network operated. Evidence shows that the group used a complex financial system to hide the money trail by moving funds through personal accounts and credit societies. Furthermore, the investigation shows that the group used a systematic method to dispose of fetal remains to avoid detection. The SIT is now questioning the suspects to find out how many patients were affected and which healthcare professionals were involved.
