A navigation mistake involving an Air India plane led to a brief encounter with an IndiGo aircraft on a taxiway in Ahmedabad on June 24.

The incident happened in the evening when Air India flight AI2493 arrived from Mumbai. After exiting the runway, the crew was told to move toward the international parking area using Taxiways C and G. However, the pilots did not make the required right turn onto Taxiway G and instead continued along Taxiway P.

At the same time, an IndiGo flight bound for Mumbai was using Taxiway P to prepare for departure. Because their paths crossed, both planes had to stop immediately. Reports state that the aircraft stayed about 200 meters apart. After both planes stopped, the Air India aircraft was towed to its parking spot, which allowed the IndiGo flight to eventually depart.

Both airlines have focused on their safety procedures. Air India admitted the mistake was an accidental wrong turn, but emphasized that passengers and crew were never in danger. Meanwhile, IndiGo confirmed there was a short delay and noted that they followed all official protocols. Consequently, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has started a formal investigation to find the exact cause of the error.
