King Charles III has announced that he and Queen Camilla will continue to live at Clarence House instead of moving to Buckingham Palace after the major renovations are finished.

This decision breaks a tradition that started in 1837. Furthermore, the palace believes that since the royal couple will not live there, more of the building can be open to the public, which could increase the amount of money the palace earns from visitors.

At the same time, the palace has released new financial information. The King has voluntarily shared that he paid £12.9 million in taxes for 2024–25 and £11.7 million for 2023–24. This continues a policy of transparency started by Queen Elizabeth II in 1992. However, under current laws, the monarch is still not required to pay income, capital gains, or inheritance taxes.

This decrease is possible because the essential repairs to old electrical and plumbing systems are now complete. The monarchy also receives extra income from the Duchy of Lancaster and private properties like Balmoral Castle.
