Furthermore, the Japan Meteorological Agency confirmed that there was no risk of a tsunami. Meanwhile, the Philippines recorded a magnitude 6.5 earthquake in Mindanao. This follows a much stronger magnitude 7.8 event on June 8, which caused 78 deaths and affected 1.5 million people. This high level of risk is linked to the country's location within the Pacific Ring of Fire.
