The United Nations and U.S. federal agencies have started investigations into the rising number of deaths and the use of force within Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities.

The increase in death rates has happened at the same time as the second Trump administration's plan for mass deportations, which aims for 3,000 arrests per day. According to data from Human Rights Watch and UCLA Law, deaths have reached their highest levels since 2004, with 52 deaths recorded in the first 500 days of this administration. This is a significant increase compared to the previous Biden administration and the first Trump term.

Furthermore, the DHS Office of the Inspector General is now checking if official policies caused deaths between October 2021 and March of this year. However, the DHS administration claims that death rates are stable at 0.009% and asserts that their facilities are better than many local prisons.
