Prime Minister Narendra Modi began a three-day official visit to Seychelles from June 27 to 29, 2026. The purpose of the trip was to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the nation's National Day and to improve strategic cooperation between the two countries.

Seychelles is a key partner because it is a 'Large Ocean State' with a massive Exclusive Economic Zone and is located near important shipping routes, such as the Mozambique Channel.

Furthermore, the partnership has moved beyond simple financial aid to shared responsibility. For example, India delivered a Fast Patrol Vessel, ambulances, and other vehicles to help Seychelles improve its coastal security and public services.

Additionally, the relationship is strengthened by the Indian community living in Seychelles, which the government describes as a 'living bridge' between the two democracies.
