The UK government is preparing to release a new Defence Investment Plan (DIP). This plan includes a change in how the navy buys new ships and adjustments to the budget for national security.

Furthermore, this strategy is intended to counter Russian activity in the North Atlantic and support British shipyards.

Although the new Defence Secretary, Dan Jarvis, has secured more funding—approximately £14 billion in total—it is still unclear if the budget meets the required £28 billion. Consequently, while spending is expected to reach 2.68% of GDP by 2030, the government still aims for 3.5% by 2035.

He argued that failing to maintain a strong nuclear deterrent could damage the UK's relationship with the US and other NATO allies. This challenge now falls to the leadership of Andy Burnham, who has reportedly approved the current plan.
