The Queensland Redistribution Commission has published its final report on the new state electoral boundaries. This update includes the removal of two existing seats and the creation of two new districts.

The redistribution process, which is the first since 2017, required the removal of the Stretton and Hill seats due to changes in population. In contrast, the commission created the Caboolture and Springfield seats to handle the growing population in the Moreton Bay and Ipswich areas. While 17 districts had their names changed to make them easier for voters to identify, the names of Coomera and Waterford remained the same.

Analysis shows a large gap between population growth and the number of parliamentary seats. Since 1949, the state population has grown by 500 percent, but the number of seats has only increased by 25 percent. Consequently, the commission warned that the high growth in the south-east makes it difficult to manage large regional seats. To solve this, they suggested three options: increasing the total number of seats, providing more funding for representatives of very large districts, or changing the enrolment quota from 10 percent to 15 percent to allow more flexibility.

Responses from politicians have been mixed. Representative Shane Knuth claimed that removing the Hill seat was a political move, whereas Premier David Crisafulli pointed out that the new seats are located in areas that usually support the Labor Party. The commission emphasized that any legal changes to the system would need agreement from both major parties to prevent the electoral system from being manipulated for political gain.

The new electoral map will be used for the 2028 state election, unless the government decides to change the total number of seats.
