Deion Sanders has announced that he has recovered from a cancerous bladder tumor after undergoing robotic surgery.

The medical process began last spring when a routine CT scan found a mass in his bladder. After being referred to the University of Colorado Anschutz, he was diagnosed with a high-risk malignant tumor. Although the cancer had not spread into the bladder's muscle layer, doctors estimated a fifty percent chance that it could return or grow. Consequently, Dr. Janet Kukreja performed a radical cystectomy and rebuilt the bladder using a piece of the intestine with the Da Vinci robotic system. This minimally invasive method allowed for a faster recovery and a shorter hospital stay.
