At the same time, a different process is being used to select the 2026 Girls Athlete of the Year. This system uses several stages to narrow down the candidates. Currently, sixteen athletes are in the second round because they previously won a Thibodaux Regional Health System Athlete of the Week award and ranked in the top sixteen of the first vote. To make the competition fair, all previous votes were reset at the start of this round. Consequently, only the top eight candidates in the current vote will move forward to the semifinals.
