The United States government has started a series of orders and legal investigations to lower retail gasoline prices after a period of high market instability.

The current price instability began on February 28, when U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Although diplomatic agreements and a ceasefire have since lowered crude prices to around $70, these savings have not reached consumers quickly. Analysts describe this as 'rocket and feather' pricing, where prices rise quickly but fall slowly. Consequently, the national average remains between $3.85 and $3.86 per gallon, which is much higher than the $2.50 target set by the government.

Furthermore, he has asked the Department of Justice to investigate whether major oil companies are unfairly raising prices. On the other hand, the American Petroleum Institute and Chevron emphasize that the delay in lowering retail prices is a normal part of how the market works. They assert that supply chain problems and inventory management mean that prices must return to normal gradually.
