Recent data from the Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC) and Gallup show that online scams and cybercrime remain a serious problem for people in both Australia and the United States.

Instead, the main risk factor is how much time a person spends online, which explains why younger people and certain marginalized groups are targeted more often.

Consequently, this loss of trust affects not only individuals but also the general confidence in digital and commercial systems.
