Ng Boon Hong, a 63-year-old Singaporean man, has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his housemate, Ang Cheng Kek.

一名63歲的新加坡男子 Ng Boon Hong，因謀殺其室友 Ang Cheng Kek，被判處終身監禁。

The conflict began because the two men shared a small one-room rental flat in Redhill Close. They frequently argued over daily habits, such as smoking and where to hang laundry. Tensions grew when the victim invited another person into the flat for private relations in the shared space. Before the murder, the victim had already reported Ng to the police for making death threats, and Ng had previously destroyed furniture with a hammer.

衝突始於兩名男子在紅山 Close 共用一個狹小的單房出租公寓。他們經常為了日常習慣而爭執，例如吸菸以及晾曬衣物的地點。當被害人邀請另一人進入公寓在共用空間進行私密活動時，緊張局勢進一步升級。在謀殺發生前，被害人已向警方舉報 Ng 曾發出死亡威脅，而 Ng 此前也曾用錘子破壞家具。

On March 16, 2023, after an argument started by a door being slammed, Ng planned and carried out a violent attack. He heated cooking oil with chillis to make the pain worse for the victim. After closing the windows to hide the noise, Ng poured the boiling oil on the sleeping man's face and stabbed him several times in the neck and stomach. Furthermore, Ng stopped the victim from pressing an emergency button for elderly residents, ignoring his pleas for medical help.

2023年3月16日，在一次因關門聲而起的爭執後，Ng 計劃並實施了一場暴力攻擊。他加熱食用油並加入辣椒，以增加被害人的痛苦。在關閉窗戶以掩蓋噪音後，Ng 將滾燙的油淋在睡眠中男子的臉上，並在其頸部和腹部多次刺擊。此外，Ng 還阻止被害人按下長者緊急按鈕，無視其請求醫療救助的哀求。

After the killing, Ng stole about S$3,000 from the victim and broke his mobile phone. He later visited a temple to confess and spent the stolen money on luxury items and entertainment in Geylang before surrendering to the police the next day. During the trial, it was revealed that Ng had a criminal record dating back to the 1980s. His lawyers argued that he struggled to handle conflict due to limited intellectual ability and chronic health problems, including diabetes and high blood pressure.

行兇後，Ng 從被害人處盜走約 3,000 新加坡元並損毀其手機。他隨後前往寺廟懺悔，並將盜取的錢財用於在芽籠購買奢侈品和娛樂，直到次日才向警方投案。在審理過程中，揭露 Ng 自 1980 年代起就有犯罪紀錄。其律師辯稱，由於 Ng 智力有限且患有糖尿病及高血壓等慢性健康問題，使其難以處理衝突。

Justice Dedar Singh Gill decided that although the attack was planned to cause great pain, the defendant's remorse and his decision to surrender meant the death penalty was not necessary. Consequently, he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
