The United States government has started the deportation process for three Cuban citizens and has placed sanctions on a Cuban-linked organization suspected of trying to influence U.S. politics.

The State Department has cancelled the legal status of Carlos Antonio Lloga Dominguez, as well as his wife and child. Consequently, they are currently in federal custody waiting to be removed from the country. The administration emphasized that Lloga Dominguez worked as a secret agent for over ten years on behalf of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the People (ICAP). Officials describe ICAP as a main tool for Cuban intelligence, alleging that the group spreads anti-American propaganda and builds political connections in the U.S. to support the government in Havana. Furthermore, ICAP is said to manage a global network of about 2,000 organizations in 150 countries.

At the same time, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has introduced sanctions that freeze all of ICAP's assets in the U.S. and ban American companies from doing business with them. Although ICAP claims it is a peaceful civil society organization and denies any illegal activity, the U.S. government asserts that the group works with far-left organizations to spread revolutionary ideas. Meanwhile, the Department of Justice and the Treasury Department are investigating an influence campaign involving 145 U.S. nonprofits, some of which are linked to financier Neville Roy Singham. Specifically, the group CodePink is under investigation for possible sanctions violations after sending an aid convoy to Cuba during an oil blockade.
