An eighteen-year-old college student has died after drowning in the River Wye, Powys, during an official expedition.

The incident began on Tuesday evening in Glasbury, Powys, after reports emerged that a young man had entered the river and disappeared. At around 18:30 BST, a large-scale rescue operation was launched. This effort involved the Dyfed-Powys police, the Mid and West Wales fire and rescue service, mountain rescue volunteers, and the National Police Air Service. Consequently, these teams worked together to locate and recover the student's body.

Furthermore, this tragedy follows a worrying trend, as six other open-water deaths were reported across the UK in the previous week.
