Police in Bengaluru have started a criminal investigation into five caregivers at a corporate daycare center after reports of physical and mental abuse of young children.

The legal process began on June 29 after video evidence was sent to the Child Helpline via WhatsApp. The HAL police filed a formal report against five staff members—Manjula, Vijayalakshmi, Bhavani, Sindhu, and Bindu. They are charged under laws protecting children and general criminal codes. The allegations are severe, claiming that children aged two to three were locked in washing machines and bathrooms, forced into water pipes, and had water sprays used in their mouths to stop them from crying.

In response, Capgemini Technology Services India temporarily closed the Brookefield campus facility, emphasizing that the safety of their employees' families is the top priority. Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh stated that the investigation will also check if other daycare centers in the area are following safety regulations. A Deputy Commissioner of Police is now leading the probe, focusing on checking CCTV footage to see how long this abuse had been happening.

Consequently, there are calls for better pay and specialized training for childcare workers to prevent such failures in the future.

The Bengaluru police are still searching for the five suspects while the facility remains closed for a full regulatory review.
