In contrast, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office recently released body camera footage of a fatal shooting that occurred on June 3. The event began around 1:00 p.m. after police received a report of a woman screaming. When deputies arrived, a 59-year-old woman named Rosalia Hodges came out of her house carrying a knife. Although officers repeatedly ordered her to drop the weapon, she allegedly moved toward them and threatened to kill them. Consequently, three deputies fired their weapons. Despite receiving emergency medical help at the scene, Ms. Hodges later died from her injuries. The agency asserted that releasing the footage is part of its policy to be transparent about serious incidents.

- B2 Tip: "Despite" is a power-word. It is followed by a noun or a verb ending in -ing (e.g., Despite the rain... or Despite feeling sick...), not a full sentence.
3. The Domino Effect (Cause & Effect) Instead of "so," the text uses:
Consequently- Example: "...she allegedly moved toward them... Consequently, three deputies fired."
- B2 Tip: Use this when one action directly triggers another. It sounds more objective and academic than "so."
