Several regions in Southern Europe and Canada are currently dealing with major wildfires. As a result, these countries have deployed specialized emergency teams and activated international agreements to share resources.

To ensure public safety and help firefighters move more easily, authorities closed twelve municipalities. Consequently, around 45,000 residents were confined to their homes, and travel from Barcelona to several nearby regions was restricted. This event is part of a larger trend; the Spanish government noted that in 2025, over 8,000 fires burned 393,000 hectares, leading to eight deaths and 86 injuries.

Meanwhile, France has deployed approximately 2,000 personnel and aircraft to control fires. In other southern areas, such as Bouches-du-Rhone, several blazes have already been contained. Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu reported that nearly 7,000 fires have started this season. Furthermore, government spokesperson Maud Bregeon suggested that current resources might not be enough to handle the scale of the threat.

Therefore, Lisbon has asked for extra aerial support to maintain its own resources. At the same time, the government has banned the use of machinery for forestry work and controlled burning. Similarly, in North America, the government of Newfoundland and Labrador has coordinated with Nova Scotia to bring in ground crews to help fight fires near Labrador City, where 120 residents had to leave their homes.
