Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has released a detailed report on the end of the hantavirus outbreak, the current Ebola situation in Africa, and the emergency response to earthquakes in Venezuela.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially announced that the hantavirus outbreak linked to the MV Hondius has ended. This event involved a rare strain of the Andes virus, which can occasionally spread between people, leading to 13 infections and three deaths. The virus was controlled after health officials monitored more than 650 people across 33 different regions. To prevent similar events in the future, 21 countries have started a joint research project to improve how the virus is diagnosed and treated.

There have been 1,406 confirmed cases and 438 deaths, and the outbreak is still growing with an average of 38 new cases every day. Although the WHO has introduced new diagnostic tests and started clinical trials for treatments, these efforts are hindered by instability in the region. The Director-General emphasized that mistrust and violence have led to the destruction of a treatment center in Ituri province, resulting in two deaths.

Consequently, the organization has delivered 34 tonnes of medical supplies and provided $1.5 million from its emergency fund to support the country's weak health system. Furthermore, the Director-General warned about the risks of air pollution affecting 6.5 billion people and the negative impact of social media algorithms on teenagers' health.
