Federal authorities have finished a sixty-day joint operation called 'Operation New Dawn,' which led to many arrests and the rescue of missing children in Chicago.

Operation New Dawn used a 'badgeless' approach, meaning eleven federal agencies—including the FBI, DEA, ATF, and HSI—worked together as one single team rather than as separate organizations. This strategy was designed to speed up law enforcement actions to better fight urban violence. Starting on May 1, the initiative targeted various crimes, such as drug trafficking, illegal firearms, immigration violations, and child exploitation.

As a result of the operation, 305 suspects were arrested, and 140 federal criminal cases were filed against 179 defendants. Law enforcement focused on high-priority threats, including gang members David Collins and Tyrone Thomas, who were charged with conspiring to distribute heroin and fentanyl, as well as Felipe Dejesus Gomez Ramirez, a convicted murderer. Furthermore, the operation helped find and return 24 children, many of whom had been kidnapped. The DEA emphasized that the drugs seized during this time show a clear link between illegal drug sales and violent crime.
