Why it works: "Consequently" is a formal way to say "as a result." It signals a professional, academic tone.

⚖️ The "Contrast" Shift

Instead of always using but, look at how the text uses However.

A2 version: The EU gives aid, but they don't agree on sanctions.
B2 version: Over €2.7 billion has been provided. However, member states have not agreed on sanctions.

Pro Tip: Notice the punctuation. "However" usually starts a new sentence and is followed by a comma. This creates a sophisticated pause that B2 speakers use to emphasize a contradiction.
