Dispute Over Control of the All India Trinamool Congress Headquarters

Introduction

A rebel group within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has taken physical control of the party's rented office in Kolkata, claiming that they are the true leaders of the organization.

Main Body

This instability was caused by a split involving about 58 of the 80 TMC legislators. Led by Ritabrata Banerjee, this group rejected Mamata Banerjee's leadership and elected senior MLA Arup Roy as the new chairperson on June 22. Furthermore, they created a new 30-member National Working Committee and suspended Abhishek Banerjee. These changes happened after a major election shift where the BJP won 207 out of 274 assembly seats.

On Friday, the rebel group took over the rented building near the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass. This was possible because of a previous lease dispute between the owner, Mantu Saha, and the loyalist group, which forced the loyalists to leave two floors in June. The rebels have put up new signs naming Arup Roy as chairperson and are using the party's 'twin-flower' symbol. However, they have kept images of Mamata Banerjee, as some members suggested she might move into an advisory role.

At the same time, the rebels have started a legal battle with the Election Commission of India (ECI). After meeting with the ECI in New Delhi, the group claimed ownership of the party's name, assets, and symbol, arguing that most legislators support them. Consequently, the ECI has asked for documents to decide between the competing claims made by both the loyalist and rebel committees.

Conclusion

The party is currently split between two competing leadership groups, while the ECI reviews the legal validity of the rebel group's claim to control the organization.

🚀 The 'Logic Link' Shift: Moving from A2 to B2

At the A2 level, students usually connect ideas with simple words like and, but, or because. To reach B2, you need Connectors of Result and Addition. These words act as bridges that make your writing sound professional and cohesive.

🔍 Spotted in the Text

Look at how the author moves from a cause to an effect. Instead of using "so," the text uses these high-level transitions:

  1. Furthermore \rightarrow Used to add more information to a list of actions.
    • Context: "...elected senior MLA Arup Roy... Furthermore, they created a new 30-member Committee."
  2. Consequently \rightarrow Used to show a direct logical result.
    • Context: "...arguing that most legislators support them. Consequently, the ECI has asked for documents..."

🛠️ How to use them (The B2 Upgrade)

Instead of... (A2)Try using... (B2)Example Upgrade
And also...Furthermore,"The hotel is cheap. Furthermore, it is near the beach."
So...Consequently,"The company lost money. Consequently, they fired ten people."

💡 Pro Tip for Fluency

Notice that these words are followed by a comma ( , ). This creates a natural pause in speech and a clear structure in writing. If you start a sentence with Consequently, you are telling the reader: "Pay attention, the next part is the result of everything I just said."

Quick Contrast:

  • A2 Style: The party split and they fought for the office so the ECI stepped in.
  • B2 Style: The party split and fought for the office. Consequently, the ECI stepped in to resolve the dispute.
