They argued that sending Haitian nationals back to a 'failed state' with violent gangs would be harmful. Governor DeWine highlighted that the Haitian community contributes greatly to Ohio's manufacturing and healthcare sectors, meaning mass deportation would hurt the state's economy. Similarly, Representative Lawler noted that ending TPS suddenly would cause a crisis in healthcare and disability services.

These efforts are seen in bill HR 1689, which aims to extend TPS for Haiti until 2029 and has already passed the House of Representatives.
