A Quest Kodiak 100 seaplane had a hard landing in New York City's East River on July 5, which required emergency rescue operations.

The accident happened around 12:00 local time near East 23rd Street and FDR Drive in Manhattan. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the plane descended with too much vertical force, which caused a wing strut to break. Reports state that the aircraft had flown from the Hamptons toward a seaplane base; furthermore, some accounts suggest that hitting river waves caused the plane to partially tip over.

While two people were checked for minor injuries, at least one person refused medical help. Consequently, the aircraft stayed upright and was later towed to a dock.
