Joint security forces are currently carrying out a multi-day operation to capture two militants in the Meemandar area of Jammu and Kashmir.

The operation began on Friday after surveillance equipment detected two individuals. The targets, identified as Latif and Zakir—both from the Kulgam district and members of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba group—were located in a thick orchard. Consequently, a joint team consisting of the Indian Army, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force surrounded the area and searched four villages.

Fighting broke out when the militants opened fire on the soldiers, who then returned fire. Because the thick summer leaves make it easier for militants to hide from surveillance, the specialized Victor Force has increased the number of troops and used lighting to block possible escape routes.

Security officials emphasized that capturing local operatives is necessary to destroy local supply networks and stop recruitment, even though there is an increasing use of foreign fighters in the region.
