The Paris Court of Appeal will announce a decision on Tuesday regarding whether Marine Le Pen is allowed to run in the 2027 French presidential election. This follows her conviction for using European Parliament funds illegally.

The legal case began after a 2025 conviction where Le Pen and other members of the National Rally (RN) party were found to have used European Parliament money to pay party staff between 2004 and 2016. The first court decision banned her from holding public office for five years. While Le Pen admitted to some administrative mistakes, she emphasized that her actions were legal and argued that the European Parliament did not provide clear rules. Consequently, prosecutors are now asking for a four-year prison sentence, a €100,000 fine, and for the five-year ban on running for office to remain in place.

Furthermore, Bardella has suggested a different policy than Le Pen regarding the retirement age; he is open to increasing it, whereas Le Pen wants to lower it to 60 or 62 years.
