The Tibetan community in exile and Indian officials celebrated the 91st birthday of the 14th Dalai Lama with various religious and official ceremonies on July 6.

流亡西藏社區與印度官員於 7 月 6 日透過多項宗教與官方儀式，慶祝第十四任達賴喇嘛的 91 歲生日。

The main celebrations took place at the Tsuglagkhang temple in Dharamshala, where between 3,000 and 4,000 people, including foreign visitors and local residents, joined in prayers and cultural performances. The event was attended by Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa. Similar religious services were also held at the Dorje Drak Monastery in Shimla. Although the Dalai Lama could not attend in person because he was in Ladakh and recovering from a knee surgery in New Delhi, the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) organized the event successfully. This follows last year's "Year of Compassion" project, which focused on protecting the Tibetan language and the environment.

Historically, the spiritual leader was born in Takster in 1935 and was recognized as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama when he was two years old. He became the head of the State of Tibet in 1940 and took full control in 1950. However, the political situation changed in March 1959, when a failed uprising forced the leader and about 80,000 refugees to flee to India. Consequently, these annual celebrations serve as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for cultural identity and legitimacy, which remains a political challenge for the government in Beijing.

Regarding diplomacy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent a formal message via the X platform. The Prime Minister emphasized that the Dalai Lama's teachings provide global guidance and praised his dedication to international peace and moral strength.

The anniversary was marked by strong religious devotion and high-level political support, even though the spiritual leader is currently recovering from surgery and staying in Ladakh.
