Health authorities in New York City are currently investigating a group of Legionnaires' disease cases located in specific neighborhoods of the Upper East Side.

Although the Department of Health has not found the exact source yet, they believe a cooling tower in the area is likely spreading the bacteria through the air. Mayor Zohran Mamdani emphasized that the outbreak is not linked to home plumbing or indoor air conditioning, asserting that drinking water and residential systems are safe.

These changes were designed to support existing laws that require building owners to register their towers and maintain them properly.

Therefore, health officials advise anyone who visited the east side of Central Park between East 76th and East 97th Streets since late June to see a doctor if they have a fever, cough, or difficulty breathing.
